I Could Give You the Moon

I thought this book was really good. I don’t believe it holds a flame to the first book, because that was one of my favourite books this year, but it was a perfectly enjoyable read. I love how, in this series/duology, that the books are so much more than just romance books. There’s tension and a degree of darkness to them as well, and I’ve never really read a romance book like that.

A couple of complaints though.

I feel like we’re not really given a reason why they fell in love. Or, at least, we’re not given a reason why Ares falls in love. A lot of his internal monologue about her just seems to be how attracted he is to her and how she intrigues him, and it’s the same with Chanel’s really. For me, there has to be a pure, solid reasoning behind why the main characters are in love with each other, and when a lot of the plot is just them kissing and having sex, I don’t buy the fact that they’re in love. Those are just my own personal thoughts, though.

Chanel’s dad should have been at the hospital. At the very start of the book, it felt like the author was building to some reunion of them, and when they bumped into each other this thought was further implied to me, only for him to literally never be mentioned again. I understand that she has a somewhat negative relationship with her mother (who I still don’t like), but the central focus of Chanel’s story is her fear of intimacy and her trust issues, which were caused by her father. It seems strange to me that he just doesn’t play a part in her growth and acceptance arc.

Anyway, overall I would give this book around a four star. There were a couple of issues for me, and I didn’t really feel the strong urge to pick up the book after the halfway point. But it was still good, and I would recommend.

i would say its more of a 4.5 star book for me! i felt very attached to the characters (not oliver though ew) and the writing was amazing! i just felt like there were a few questions left unanswered like what was the pattern in the curtains, who voted for her to get chucked out of the RV and what did red reply to arthurs letter? i wish we get another book or even a novella to explain what happens next.

overall a great book and would definitely recommend :)
