Loved it and so excited to read the next one. One thing I really appreciated is that this book manages to be very diverse and inclusive ESPECIALLY for a fantasy novel. I found the characters to be very compelling. I read this book immediately after finishing a sci-fi novel, so I struggled to get into it at first (I have a hard time switching between fantasy and sci-fi) but the plot was gripping enough to engross me. Very excited to read the next one!
I did not like this book! The first part in particular was borderline unbearable and I almost DNF but I prefer to finish books even if I'm not the biggest fan. I can't stand the main character or Sarah J. Maas's writing style. There are so many things frustrating to me about this series that this book turned up to 11. Some things I did not like: the overuse of the words "male," "female," and "mate," strange punctuation for questions ("What."), the main character(s) having insane plot armor, constant repetition, either trying and failing or not trying at all with the concept of show don't tell, and so many more. The latter half of the book where there was less of listening to the vapid main character and more of showing things happening was definitely better but still not great. Like other people mentioned, the lack of any real consequences in the end was bizarre considering how dark and messed up this series likes to think it is.
