this was written by my ancestor’s brother, which makes it inherently a cool read. i think i learned from this book that my great-great uncle was deeply mentally unwell but also quite impressively good at yearning. im not surprised that both these qualities are in my bloodline. him writing about his hometown was special to me as a descendent. i imagine the organization of this book makes more sense in the yiddish than english version. it kinda has the vibe of a bible but if the bible was written by a communist nonmonagamist depressed alcoholic that im related to. i think i would’ve enjoyed it less if i wasn’t related to him so i wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to non-relatives of mine
