This was an unexpected delight! The Last of Us meets Superstore, this book is a workplace sitcom with the highest stakes imaginable. It's a wonderful blend of skin-crawling suspense and humor, of darkness and hope.

I loved how this book started right in the middle of the action and didn't slow down. More than just thrills, it's also a beautiful exploration of how we hold on to grief. Can't wait to read T.J.'s other books!

This is one of very few instances where I'll say that the TV adaptation is better than the original. The book is very detailed with most chess moves made in Beth's games, which can make it difficult to read at times. If this might deter you, I would recommend listening to the audio book.
