6,056 booksWhen you think back on every book you've ever read, what are some of your favorites? These can be from any time of your life – books that resonated with you as a kid, ones that shaped your personal...
I know this book came out over ten years ago but I just watched the movies and wrote a review on letterboxd but it's really more about the books so I'm posting it here too.

I cannot tell you how fucking betrayed I was when this book first came out. all I wanted was some hot pg-13 vampire boning and instead my 14 year old self got served a steaming pile of heavy-handed pro-life garbage.
and I'm still mad! what a cynical, underhanded bait-and-switch. teenagers read these books to safely explore their developing sexuality. as much of a basic self-insert character as bella is, I really do appreciate that she had things she desired desperately! and one of those things (and a driving force of everything that happens in the books??) is that bella wants to have sex!
anyway none of this matters because it was all leading up to this cheap ploy to scare girls into not having sex and if they do have sex they better not fucking get an abortion! if you have sex, you'll get pregnant. if you get pregnant, you can't get an abortion. if the pregnancy threatens your life, you still can't get an abortion. if the pregnancy breaks! your spine!! you still better not get an abortion.
however, possibly even more offensive is the fact that the baby turns out to be the bestest, most beautiful, most preternaturally intelligent baby in the whole world who can also communicate with her mind and leaves helpless babyhood in a matter of days. so not only do you have to have the baby but when you do it will be very easy and involve a minimum of crying! if you're going to write outright pro-life propaganda, don't also lie and pretend a baby isn't going to completely take over your life.
I don't know which would be worse: stephenie meyer planning all this from the beginning or getting to the last book and not being able to not let bella have her wish fulfillment fantasy and eat it too.
