I wanted to read Foundation's Edge by Isaac Asimov because I have been on a long journey of trying to finish the complete Foundation story, from Robots to Galactic Empire to Foundation.
Isaac really did it again, and by it, I do not refer to somehow winning the Nebula award in 1983 for this novel, I mean writing some of the most misogynistic and sexist renditions of women he has ever written. That is really saying something because every single woman he writes is introduced by classifying her beauty and femininity and then describing in some combination her breasts, her buttocks, her waist, and/or her overall body shape.
Anyway, even if you somehow ignore the misogyny, this novel is weak overall. The plot moves at a glacial speed through 330 pages and then finally gets to the point in the last 30 pages. The plot is just the Foundation and Second Foundation coming to a conflict point, which is basically the same concept as the previous two novels. It feels like a heavy-handed attempt to wrap up every loose end from all of his previous novels and bind them into the greater Foundation story. It functions as an advertisement to go back and read his previous novels; Isaac even spends his entire "Author's Note" telling you that all of his other books are still for sale!
I would only recommend this novel to someone who is helplessly trapped in the goal of trying to read the entire Foundation series.
