just read this first book from what seems to be a series with 4 more to come or so; but this i tell you right now : there´s nofuckinwhere meaner except where c a i n e ! is. ‘cause c a i n e ! is meanest motherfucker - ever & period.

(i wanna live in a world where amc or starz do epic seasons of this)

Outstanding.

Something I rarely do did indeed happen here. I've read this two times in a row and it is ever so entertaining!

If you happen to be a fan of all things language, you owe it to yourself to read this towering tome of a book (BABEL is a Dark-Academia-Doorstopper of 800 densely written pages with a chockfull of very intricate footnotes, mind you!)
The concept of magic presented here is a truly unique one, which I've found endlessly fascinazing in its approach.. Is this book talkie at times? Yes. Occasionally overindulging? Double Yes.. Is it one of my favourite books of all time? You bet!

A solid beach read for the Near-SF-Enthusiast, although I've found the protagonists being a bit on the dull side. But hey - I got through this in 8 thrilling hours nonetheless. Love the concept and will ponder this for days to come...

A borghesian hilarity.
Easily my read of the year so far.
This book is so funny it's EXHAUSTING.

-enhanced reading experience when diagnosed with ADHD-

this was so good.

reading this felt a lot like reading the first book of la recherche du temps perdu, gets you in some trancy state of mind, in this case a deeply funny examination of total boredom and its effects on the human mind, written by a real funny guy who killed himself after 10 years of working on a book named infinite jest, which is totally smash by the way.

outstanding. plenty images, plenty text in epic size. must have for lore freaks. worldbuilding on a massive scale.

Absolutely stunning in all disciplines: Worldbuilding, prose and of course the whole presentation. Smash!!

It may have been written with young adults in mind, simple prose, simple story.
Nice, consistent worldbuilding and very charming protagonists saved this book for me.
Well suited for a beachread.

Meta. Voll Meta. Ein wunderschönes Ende. An einem Tag nur so durchgerauscht und viel gelacht. Mein alter Freund Rainer Hempen würde das Buch sehr lustig finden.

blew me to dust.

Valente should write the remaining 7 Brooks of Mervin Peake's Ghormengast Saga. I will read her other books now. TopLevel Writing. Beyond Words sometimes.

me did it in one stormy night. it is flawlessly straight and a great ride from start to finish while at its heart a truedetective - story 40k style.

A gloomy experience of lovecraftian dimensions with a fat sense of wonder thrown in. Pace is somewhat slow, which greatly adds to the eerieness looming all over the 200+ pages. I loved it. Didn't know Jeff Vandermeer, though. Slick writing. Chapeau!!

ideal for starters and should be read before the heresy-stuff. eisenhorn is a real interesting character, but bear in mind that this is set in warhammer40k-present time. means dystopia on an insane level.

Total war. Nothing more. Dan Abnett delivers spot on.

He never read them all, that is for sure.

Easily the Most daring book ever written about David Lynch and his movies, especially LOST HIGHWAY, MULHOLLAND DRIVE, STRAIGHT STORY, INLAND EMPIRE. Mindmelting.

Of course I loved it.

But this is only of Interest to people who are really into the Art of Yoko Taro, which happens to be Videogame - Art.

This guy alone created the Nier Universe, which is one of the deepest & frighteningly complex (or convoluted, your mileage may vary :) fictional universes ever created for Entertainment purposes, containing the most mindmelting SciFi - Stuff I've come to read since Jean Giraud (Moebius) or Roger Zelazny at their dopest.
