All-in-all, Kissen's indomitable human spirit is dark comedy gold but reading Inara slowly become the same wrecked me so much I'll sell my soul to ensure she gets the rest of her childhood.
That aside, I'm seeing many people say the first half of Sunbringer was slow & they missed the main characters being together. They're not wrong, but they're missing the value of the first half-
I LOVE how much world-building & character growth we got from their separation goals & experiences. It not only made the world feel bigger but also made me feel closer to the characters as we got to see how differently they act with others, rediscover themselves through familiar experiences/places, and most importantly how the events of Godkiller solidified each of the main character's perceptions of each other. It also super helped build the tension & urgency of the climax for me. Seeing how differently Arren's actions looked & felt to the trio made me question who to side with the entire time.
And truly my favorite part was learning more about the gods of Middren- how they came to be, continue to be & what the future may hold for them with the nicely built-up reveal in the final chapters.
The world buildings there but like.. our FL & her relationships coulda been a bit more thought out
