Presents antidotes as evidence, no real science explained, and studies mentioned are not cited.
If you're just looking for a casual overview this might be helpful, but this should not be anyone's only source of information. There are a few important topics introduced and briefly explained and then the recipes in the back look good, especially if you want to know how to make cbd lotions and lip balm.
I found a lot of the investigation in this book super hard to follow, but that might just be me.
I still really, really enjoyed the plot in this book anyways, and the main character. I am a sucker for strong female characters :) I felt the Chevaz kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading this. (And it was in one sitting, because it's one of those books I just couldn't put down)
Knight is funny, but I guess I'm just getting tired of hearing about how much success people have had by ... being successful!
Seriously this book doesnt include any research of any kind and regurgitates the same “tips” over and over. At least she was kind enough to inform us she only spent a month writing it. Single moms with a full plate, dont worry - Knight appreciates how busy you are. Just prioritize better and delegate to your children or the support system you have because priviledge (: I should stop reading these types of books.
For general, get off your ass and do the thing inspiration this book gets 3 stars.
I liked the idea behind this book but personally felt that the main character wasn't very relatable and didn't have much reason to do the things that she did.
The ending was also disappointing to me, none of the book was shocking and the main villain also seemed inhumanly good at knowing exactly what the main character was going to do before she did it, but the book gave no reasoning for this.
Great ideas, average writing/execution.
I would usually start a review with a synopsis but wow, where to even start?! This book is a retelling of the early life-childhood to teen years of a fiery young man. And what a life it was. From fighting dragons to not kissing the young woman he falls in love with he's done it all. Except the things he wants most.
The Name of the Wind is wonderfully well written and makes you dream alongside the protagonist and root for him for the entire book. I was often left shocked by how he managed to get out of most of the messes he got himself into. Kvothe has become one of my favorite characters of all time, that's for sure. I cannot wait to read the next book in The Kingkiller Chronicles.
This book is a quick, fun read, featuring a young troublemaker who gets a get-out-of-jail-free card from the British intelligence agency. He meets a cast of funny characters who aren't afraid to humble him and ground him by kicking his ass on a daily basis.
Would definitely suggest to anyone who wants a good chuckle and enjoys reading about kids being kids.
This book has just as many plot twists, betrayals and heartbreaks as the first! I got just as excited about it as I was reading it and when I finished as I did the first and by that I mean VERY excited.
Shusterman fleshes out his unique concept introduced in Scythe, the scythes and their history as well as their limitations and their own humanity. He works well with the editor/publishers decision to keep this book available to educational audiences while exploring mature questions and themes. Kid friendly while still capturing adult interest.
Thunderhead changes the focus of the reader in the world he has created. The storyline still mostly follows the scythes, but interspersed with the thoughts and reactions of the Thunderhead as he watches and listens as well as a new key character. The reader questions the ethics and sustainability of such a system as the thunderhead, just like the questions that arose during the first book about the scythe system. This book answers a lot of questions from the first by showing a spectacular failing of certain aspects of the scythedom. I can only hope that the third book in the series will answer our questions from Thunderhead in the same manner.
Citra and Rowan are both well presented and awe-inspiring. Greyson is maybe one of the most innocent people in this entire world and his story keeps me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. Good and Bad characters both make choices with relatable motivations and all of the big players go through a character arc that changes them and makes them all very interesting.
The only bad part about this book is that the third one, tentatively named The Toll is not out yet!
I really love Tamora Pierce's work and this book is the first of this quartet to slow down with the action. Way down. For Alanna's first year as a knight it feels like she didn't have much in the way of adventures, besides meeting the tribe and becoming their hero. The rest of the book she flopped her way through a love triangle. Not exactly the adventuring I was expecting.
