I think I just read one of my favorite books! I bought this on a whim in a small co-op bookstore in my town and honestly didn't expect much. It's been a while since I really saw myself in a main character, and not just the parts I like other people to see. She was surviving, not caring to try thriving. She was a people pleaser in the English department because she never thought to do anything else. She was scared to try new things and take chances. The author wrote the character and the world in such a cozy way, like she held my hand as she demonstrated life changing and being tricky but still great. Sometimes the writing was a bit cheugy, but hell, so am I so it's forgivable. Besides, I always call the twists and turns in these books and she actually got me on one (not the possum). This is not a book I normally go for or even like, but if felt nostalgic and sorely needed. This was a whirlwind surprise that I will definitely be rereading for the quiet joy it brings
me.
