Period: The Real Story of Menstruation

A very detail-oriented look at menstruation, scientifically and culturally - the introduction and conclusion are terrific and I kind of wish the very science-focused body of the work was a bit more ambitious at making broad stroke arguments. There are large sections where I wish conclusions were stated more clearly, if only because I am not smart enough to follow the science!

A lot of really clever and fun stuff throughout, very good last 150 pages. But it takes a while to get to that last 150 pages, and there is a LOT about post-graduate studies that tends towards repetition - your taste for reading about academia might dictate how satisfying you find Katabasis.
