Nicholls does a good job at describing the optimism, realism and acceptance that comes with the progression through different stages of adulthood. These observations made it worth reading, even though I never connected with either of the protagonists and didn't entirely believe their relationship.
Derren gives an interesting overview of his views on topics including memory, magic, hypnosis, psychology and even evidence-based science. Because he covers so many topics the whole book feels a bit disjointed but overall it's an interesting read.
Hugh Laurie has a great writing style: witty and you're never quite sure what direction the story will go. Unfortunately I couldn't connect with any of his characters or the storyline. I'll stick with Graham Greene for my spy stories from now on, and House for my Hugh Laurie fix.
