See allThis was well written book for sure, which is impressive for someone who didn't start life as a writer. I think if I wasn't a Survivor enthusiast I would have given it 4 stars since it had no real structural issues.
My issues with the book are all about the fact that Stephen is a former player of Survivor and so he has a unique insight into playing the game and also how the producers operate, which means (perhaps) that what is in the book is semi-realistic. And this is depressing to me since the producers in the book and the players are not what I expected them to be at all. Are all reality/competition shows like it was in this book? Is Survivor like this?!
I wanted to read a book that was more a reflection of what it was really like to be on one of these shows and I think the mismatch between what I read and what I assumed it was like was so great that it turned me off somewhat.
Again, if you're a casual viewer of these types of shows or have never seen any of them or better yet, dislike them, this book will be a fun adventure. But I am none of those things :)
This was a page turner and I loved reading it but then about 2/3 of the way through everything just conveniently resolved.. Its a fine book but it just ended and fully resolved.. I don't know what I was looking for or how if could have been better.. but it felt like some editor was like "wrap it up!"
