i'm sorry mystey =( i do understand why you like this author but his writing style was sooo not my thing. and i got mad any time he talked about girls or women. it is a very “boys will be boys” kind of book (but the boys will be boys activity is pressuring girls to strip naked in front of them and then saying “she is ugly and fat though”). and i thought the thunderbolt kid stuff was really dumb.
I loved this series when I was eight-ish but never read the third book because it wasn't out yet so I am trying to indulge my child self now. but god am I bad at reading middlegrade/ya... I don't even know how to rate this. I didn't reallyyyy enjoy it that much because I expect so much more from books now but this would be like the best thing ever for a wolfgirl and was when I was one! I will finish the series but not right now. I need something more stimulating.
I only got this and read it because my favorite band is mewithoutYou and I thought it was funny. Romance is really not my thing, but especially not this type of romance, so I'm not going to rate it. I feel like it is unfair to compare this to the books I usually read. It felt like a John Green book lol.
I had no idea what this book was about when I checked it out. My initial thoughts were something along the lines of “interesting to deconstruct everyday things and the writing process itself through the eyes of an autistic narrator” or some shit but then the plot started picking up and it was so incredibly fucked up and experiencing THAT through the eyes of this narrator was so... anyways I liked it.
it really annoys me that the plot in this book is supposed to be 1) so unique and interesting the book cannot fail and 2) shocking enough to make the reader gasp out loud. it was neither of those things. the whole premise of the story, then – of this author becoming a literary superstar after his book blows up – is entirely unbelievable to me. the twist in crib was predictable (which i don't necessarily mind, but when the characters in the book explicitly mention the “crazy shocking twist,” it is disappointing). not terrible, but it fell short of the hype (both inside and out of the book).
