The story took a while to really get into gear, but this was great. I expected pastiche but this was much more, some interesting worldbuilding!

dammit jon

Very little content, basically a list of books you should have read instead of this one

I haven't read something this original in a long time!

Like another reviewer said this is one of the best pop-math books I've read. Everything is fresh and there's little repetition of common stories and mathematics that are often repeated in other pop-math books.

Neat but a bit repetitive, as the other review points out. I'd also note that some of the early papers in this volume are previously published elsewhere and the later papers in here disagree with their conclusions.

there's something gnostic going on here; i loved it

does a good job of deconstructing Rick

I thought this was going to be a bit more fan-fiction-y but it is on the dryer end of the spectrum, more like geopolitics. Not what I really wanted but might be more interesting for those who play the game.

The only way I could get through this was to read it out loud in an atrocious old-timey American accent. Then at least it sort of made sense.

Great book about the importance of automated testing, version control, and work-life balance!

Finished ½ of this; despite his claim that it progresses more slowly than Road to Reality, it ended up much the same for me!

am i happy or am i sad? i don't know

Didn't actually finish this entirely; found it very hard going.

The book is structured as really a series of essays, which leads to a lot of repetition; I think it could be edited down to ¼ of its size. Still, worth the read!

I loved this. Not only does it shine light on traditionally-occulted aspects of tech history, the writing exuberates in allusions that range from hilarious to astute.

a unique and wonderful book

Pretty disappointed with this really, stopping 2/3 through.

Published in 2002 but has only become more relevant in 2019, amazing.

Enjoyed this, at times it felt like a

A great book, a pity it is so hard to find.
