For some odd reason I relate with this book. I've never had my memory wiped by an oppressive government but I do repress stressful memories to the piont where they feel like dreams. Despite that, the political aspect and controlling government is the most intriguing part for me. I think my fondness for this book is because it was one of the first dystopians I've read. Regardless, I'd definately read it a third time.
This is a long awaited read for me as a fan of the Slated trilogy. I had to wait two months for my library to get it. This book focus more heavily on the political side than Slated. It's a fast read; I couldn't put it down. The romance was so sweet and tore my heart out. I'll be thinking about this one for a while.
It took me a while to get into this book. But by the end I was immersed in the author's life. Her parents never sent her to school yet she went on to Harvard. This story illustrates the strength it takes to sever yourself from a dysfunctional family, abuse, and restrictive mindset, and to walk single handedly and blindly into the world alone. And to not just survive the abuse, but to soar and succeed in a way almost impossible.
As someone who doesn‘t like historical fiction, I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed this a lot. The best parts are the writing style and characters. It makes me want to read more from this author. I was never bored by the plot but I did get confused by the side character at times. I have to agree with the consensus that the stakes weren‘t that high and things seemed to conveniently work out. But I‘m not mad about it lol. I enjoyed it overall.
Finally finished this book after a long reading slump. It was a great escape for me. It‘s a fun and creative alternate ending to my favorite Disney princess‘s story. I loved the world building and the fleshing out of Aurora‘s character. I enjoyed the darker themes of depression as well. I‘d love to revisit this book in the future and it got me excited for the rest of the twisted tales.
This book touched me so deeply. As someone who can relate to the main character, this book is so important to me. I felt understood by the wider world and comforted to know that others out there are also finding solace in this story. There were moments and words that I wished I could wrap up in a little box and hold with me forever.
So many mentions of piss..... I saw other reviews complain about it as well. I only made through 10 minutes of the audiobook and the talk of piss was already overwhelming. I quit a little after the narrator described following a piss trail...
“You were conceived the carnivore way.” This quote confused me so much. Can someone explain what it means?
