This awesome fantasy adventure, "The Heart of the Nhaga," is the much-awaited English release 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 of a super popular South Korean SFF series by the amazing author Lee Young-do. It first came out in 2003, and now this classic has finally gotten a fantastic English translation thanks to Anton Hur. He's a total pro at bringing Korean and English literature together 🇰🇷↔️🇬🇧. This epic story is planned as a four-book series 📚📚📚📚, so get ready for a huge, intricate tale that will unfold over a bunch of installments.

Review- The story drops us into a super creative world 🌍, following the wild journey of three very different folks. Each one comes from a unique race and has their own special traits. Our unlikely crew includes Kagan, a human 🧍‍♂️; Tenahan, a fierce Warrior Rouster 🦅; and Byong, a mysterious Tokebbi, who's kind of like a goblin 👺. Their paths cross in some pretty wild ways as they get the tricky and dangerous job of moving a Nhaga, which is a snake-person that can think and feel 🐍. What makes this whole trip so cool is how their totally different personalities and backgrounds play off each other. You get to see how they handle and ultimately beat all the tough stuff that comes up along the way 🤝.

Kagan, the human in the group, is all about being logical and staying calm 🧠. He's like the steady anchor for the often-crazy crew. But here's a twist that makes him even more interesting: he also eats Nhaga 🤔. That really adds some complex, maybe even morally gray, layers to his character. Tenahan, the Warrior Rouster, is pure power and super hot-headed 🔥. He just gives off this intimidating vibe, making him a serious force in a fight. But underneath all that toughness, he's got a surprising weakness: a deep fear of water 💧. Pretty ironic for someone so strong! Byong, the Tokebbi, brings a much-needed dose of fun and quick wit to the group 😂. He's always dishing out laughs and comic relief. He's also described as almost immortal, which hints at a super long and exciting past. But funny enough, he's terrified of blood 🩸, another cool contradiction in his character.

At the center of their risky mission is the Nhaga himself. He's an unwilling participant, forced into a situation where he has to make huge personal sacrifices 💔. This particular Nhaga is about to be the first of his kind in a long time to cross their ancient territory lines 🏞️. His desperate mission has one clear, heartbreaking goal: to save his entire race from coming doom, even if it means facing his own death and possibly a fatal outcome. Even though he's stuck in this dangerous spot against his will, he's totally determined. He's driven by a promise to fulfill a dying friend's wish 😔. His internal struggles and the heavy weight of his responsibility add some serious emotional depth to the adventure.

Besides this main foursome, the journey introduces a vibrant mix of other characters, each one adding to the rich story mosaic 🎭. Some have small roles, offering quick but memorable interactions, while others become super important. Their actions really change the course of the quest 🌟. No matter how big or small their part, every character you meet leaves a lasting impression. You remember them because of their unique quirks, what motivates them, and how they help the overall story 📖. Having so many supporting characters really makes the world-building richer and makes the adventure feel huge and real.

Basically, "The Heart of the Nhaga" is a classic fantasy adventure through and through 🗺️. It's packed with thrilling encounters, unexpected twists, and a constant feeling of moving forward. The pace is incredibly fast ⚡, pulling you through the pages with an irresistible drive. This energetic storytelling, combined with its engaging characters and imaginative world, made for a super fun reading experience for me 😊. I'm already buzzing for the next books in this awesome series. I can't wait to explore more of this amazing world and meet its fascinating people 🤩. "Last Argument of the King" plunges readers directly into a world teetering on the brink, a narrative choice that immediately captures attention. 💥 We find ourselves navigating the tumultuous currents of two major conflicts simultaneously, each threatening to unravel the fragile peace. ⚔️ To the grim and unforgiving North, the brutal war against Bethod rages on, a relentless struggle for dominance that tests the limits of endurance. 🛡️ Meanwhile, far to the south, in the majestic and sprawling Union capital of Adua, a different kind of war unfolds against the cunning and formidable Gurkish forces. 🏰 These dual battlefronts create a palpable sense of tension and urgency from the very first pages.

Review: This is one of those books that leaves you in contemplative silence upon completion, pondering the profound nature of what you've just experienced. Fully articulating the plot is challenging, but in essence, it revolves around a clandestine organization known as The Antimemetics Division. Their primary focus is "antimemes"—objects or entities that induce memory loss, or as the text describes, "eat" memories. These antimemes are categorized based on the potency of their mnemonic erasure effects.

It is crucial to note that this book is not primarily plot-driven. While it loosely follows a narrative arc centered on combating a specific antimeme, its core strength lies in its character development.

The story follows Mary Quinn, the head of the Weileigh Antimemetics Division, as she confronts an antimeme threatening global destruction.

The narrative style can, at times, appear unconventional or fragmented, as much of the story is conveyed through case files and data entries, many of which are heavily redacted.

Verdict: Highly recommended; it offers a novel and invigorating reading experience.

Will his cunning intellect and unwavering dedication to the Union prove sufficient to navigate the perilous political currents and maintain his fragile existence? The sheer uncertainty surrounding his future adds another layer of suspense to the impending narrative.

And finally, my thoughts inevitably turn to the intertwined destinies of Ardee and Luthar, two characters whose paths have become irrevocably linked by circumstances beyond their control. What cruel or kind hand of fate awaits them as the story progresses? Will they find solace, redemption, or be further entangled in the unforgiving web of this brutal world? The emotional stakes surrounding their journey are exceptionally high, making their ultimate trajectory a matter of profound interest and concern. Just finished reading "The Last Dragoners of Bow Bazar" and it was such an atmospheric journey through the winding, historic lanes of Kolkata. 🐉✨

The story is beautifully told through the innocent eyes of Ru, a young boy living in an old house filled with the presence of his Ma, Baba, and Didimaa. One of the most compelling aspects of the narrative is Ru’s internal struggle as he navigates the mystery of his own heritage and ethnicity, trying to find his place in a world that feels both familiar and strange. It’s a poignant exploration of identity and belonging set against a richly textured backdrop.

Just finished an incredible 4.25-star read! ⭐️ If you are looking for a gripping mafia-style urban fantasy, look no further than the streets of Janloon. Set in the island nation of Kekon, this story explores a world where the "Gold" government holds the title, but the "Green" clans hold the real power.

The city is a tense battleground between two rival factions: Mountain and No Peak. The narrative dives deep into the Kaul family, following Lan, the Pillar of No Peak, and his brother Hilo, the Horn. It’s a masterfully crafted tale of legacy, loyalty, and the high price of power. Highly recommended for fans of complex world-building and intense family sagas!

In this issue we get see who is probably hidden everything that is going on in this universe.

I don't why this is being called tie-in. It has nothing to do with the main series. You can totally skip this one-shot.

In this new world, Peter Parker was not bitten by a radioactive spider... In this world it was not Uncle Ben who died... And in this Peter Parker maybe harmful rather than helpful to the people.
It was good read, I even liked this one-shot more than few issues from the core series.

There is not much happening. Blur, the fastest mortal alive, loose his powers and get it back.
And, yeah, he has 48 TVs!!
In the second part we see Blade and Captain America is trying to form a team...

In the recent years the Indian literary landscape has been flooded with mythological fictions. Don't get me wrong, I love this genre. I think India has a huge depository of mythological stories which are urging to come out through the pen of authors with new take on those stories.

With the success of books like the Ajaya duology by Anand Neelkantan, the Shiva trilogy by Amish Tripathi, etc this genre has seen a boom in Indian market. This has also inspired many other authors to write mythology with their own take and interpretation. And one such author is Kevin Missal.

Kevin wrote his debut novel at the age of 14, it was fantasy fiction based on Greek mythology called Damien Black: The Battle of Lost Ages. After Greek mythology he returned to his roots and wrote a trilogy on the last avatar of Lord Vishnu called the Kalki Trilogy. And today I am going to review the first book in the series named Dharmayoddha Kalki: Avatar Of Vishnu.

Although many recent mythological fictions are re-telling and adaptations, Kevin Missal makes it very clear on the very first page of the book in a “Note to Reader” that this series is not a retelling of Kalki Purana. It is a completely fictional tale that takes “inspiration from the life of Kalki”. Now let us take a closer look into the book...

The Plot:

The book is divided into two sections: The Battle of Shambala and The Rise of Kali.

The story begins with Kali, who had worked hard to bring all the major Tribal leader under one shed and is waiting to face the Manav King Vendanta in a battlefield. The Tribals include socially stuctured tribes like Yakshas, Rakshasas and Nagas nad few nomadic tribes like Mlecchas.

Eons ago, there was a Mahayudh and the Breaking after the Hindu Trinity restored order in the world. In this world Manavs were considered superior and Tribals were looked down upon due to their barbaric nature and physical deformities and this led to an ever-going war between Manavs and the Tribals and even amongst the Tribals themselves. But it was until Kali, with his political intelligence, forged an alliance of these Tribals and with his manipulative war strategies was able to defeat the Manav King - Vendanta. Instead of overthrowing Vendanta from his throne and taking over Illavarti he made everyone sign a treaty which state that Vendanta will retain the title of the King, as this prevent any civil war amongst the people of Illavarti. But the state will be actually ruled by a council including Kali, Kuvera (Yakshan Chief), Vasuki (Leader of Naga) and Raktapa (Leader of Rakshasas). They were each given a fort in Indragarh, the capital of Illavarti to reside and a specific department to handle.

The Tribals leaders do not like each other, there was a constant conspiring to murder one another. When Kali was attacked by a Naga assassin and was in his death-bed, his sister Durukti came to know about a magical substance — Somas, which was found in a cave in the village of Shambala. In order to get the substance and save his brother's life, Durukti has to go into a war against the villager of Shambala. And it was the first time Durukti and Kalki crossed path as Kalki was fighting for his village and his people.

In the earlier chapters, we have already met Kalki, the careless village boy. The only unusual thing about him has his superhuman power he possesses, but again he himself was not clear about his powers. In an unfortunate event his father Vishnuyatha was kidnapped, and his brother Arjan was tortured and in spite of Kalki's effort Vishnuyatha dies. But before he died he pointed his finger toward a drunkard old man trying to say something to about him, but he couldn't. This man was Kripa.

In the battle of Shambala Kalki losses many of his friends and he himself was captured by Durukti as prisoner of war.

Somas which Durukti gave to his brother Kali saved his life — but with a cost, Somas side effects turned him bald, black and mad. From the peace loving man he turned into a murderous dictator. He totally destroyed the council and became king himself. He even arranges a public execution for Kalki simply because of his insecurity and jealousy. Furthermore, he also tried killing everyone who supported Kalki.

So where is Kalki's path going to take him now? Is he really alone and friendless or will he find allies – namely Kripa, Padma and a parrot called Shuko – that shift like sand at times?

Although the prophecy says of the Adharma rising and all the fingers point toward Kali, the encounter between him and Kalki doesn't give Kalki the feeling that Kali is the main vice. So, who is the real Adharma?

Is all incidents in Kalki's life, till now, has happened by chance, or it is someone pulling the string of his life and playing with his life like a puppet master?
My Views:

Kevin Missal has done a commendable job in world building. He has created a living and breathing world with a huge variety of different cultures, though in this book we get to see a fraction of it.

But the thing which I don't like is his character creation, his character comes out to be flat. There is no dynamic in them. Certain relationships, which the author has tried to portray, appear to be forced rather being smooth in their execution.

The biggest problem with the book is its grammatical mistakes. There are several instances when he and she has been used interchangeably. But this can be rectified with proper proofreading and I hope in the subsequent editions these errors will be removed.

The pace of the book is a bit slow for my taste, at least for the first half of the book, but again this a common phenomenon with all fantasy book. Despite the slow pace, it succeeds to end with a cliffhanger.
