Found this book to be a good read, but not necessarily a fantastic read. I'd probably actually rate it about a 3.5 over a 4. I found the individual stories interesting. The endings were expected. I know there's a “formula” used when writing stories, but found this to be almost too predictable.
I would have probably enjoyed this much more if it focused more on 1 story over 3 short stories.
OMG!!! This was a great story. The “conclusion” to the Artemis Fowl story is a fantastic read. I will admit that near the end I came close to shedding a few tears with what happened. But then I remembered who it was and knew that something would happen. I would love to know what happened after the book ended.
But I have to say overall as someone who has read the complete series this is a satisfying conclusion to the story. I would love to know more, and such, but I understand that it's time to let Eoin Colfer work on writing something new.
I decided to read this book because I've read almost everything that Eoin Colfer has written. After finishing the book I almost wish that I had passed. At the beginning of the book it was interesting, and I felt drawn in. As the book continued (and the body count went up) I found it more difficult to want to finish the book, but I did.
Awesome read!! I have to say that this has become my new favorite way of getting my paranormal romance fix. The story is so easy to read, and keeps you drawn in with a bit of mystery. Sometimes you think you know what's going on, but surprise-you don't! I love it when writers do that to you.
Jazz Tremaine has got to be one of my all-time favorite heroines! And of course, dark, brooding, Nick Gregory is just perfect!!
This was another book that was suggested to me by Goodreads, and one I was lucky enough to find at the library on sale.
I have to say I was so grateful I found this book. The characters are so diverse. Most are usual ones you'd expect to find in a paranormal story-vampires. This one includes witches, elves and other characters. The main story is between Nick a sexy vampire and Jazz a fiesty witch. Their relationship is a fiery one that has been going on for several centuries.
Great read, suggest it to anyone who wants a fun easy read with a bit of drama.
I found this an easy read, but I have to say I was surprised by the religious aspect of some of the stories. I'm not saying I don't believe in God or anything like that. I'm saying there just wasn't really any hint of that when reading the description on the back.
I gave this a 3 because for my taste of books, some of the characters were a bit on the whiny side of things. I may have been due to the fact the characters for the most part are in their late 60's, and that's just an age bracket I can't relate to.
I do want to give some of the recipes in the back of the book a try as they do sound yummy!
This is another book that I found through Goodreads recommendations. I found it to be a super easy read.
The chapters in the book flip between the 4 main characters-Aggie, Kirby, Willow, and Loretta. The flip in character focus between chapters doesn't inhibit comprehension as the book was completetly written in 3rd person.
I found myself wanting to know what happened next, making it hard to put down. Even after I finished the book I would love to know what happens next.
I had this book recomended to by my goodreads based on previous books I have read. I have to say that this is a great book, and it's something that I suggest it to everyone!
This is a book that you can tell was written by someone who really loves classic comic books and stories. So much so that they wrote it to introduce it to a whole new generation.
It's a bit predictable, but there are still twists and turns to keep you turning the pages.
I want to say that I found this book through the recommendations on Goodreads based on books I have read before. If it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't have read this book. That said, I have to say that it was a pretty easy read.
My biggest issue with this story was the constant flipping of point of view mid-stream. There were several times that I was unsure who's mind I was in or who's eyes I was seeing out of. That made it difficult to follow at some points. I did find myself drawn to read the book, whether it's due to the book or the fact I've set a reading challenge for myself this year, I'm not sure.
Fantastic read! I loved how the story was told through a series of letters and telegrams! I actually learned something about WW II that I didn't know, I never new that Guernsey was occupied, then again, neither did my husband who was born and raised in England. I think this is a fantastic summer read, light and easy to read (and hard to put down!)
I've read almost all of the Melanie Travis Mysteries, and so far, I think this one isn't the best one I've read, but I'm sure it's not the worst one either.
For me it was a great change of pace as I've been reading lots of heavier books this year (between classics and “heavy” topics). It was nice to read a book that I could just relax and enjoy. I had no idea who it was who was the criminal but I had my suspicions. Then again, I'm not the kind who goes through and try to solve the crime before the hero or heroine.
I found this book on a list of 501 Books You Should Read. I can say that I am not one to read memoirs, biographies, or autobiographies, especially if it is someone I have never heard of before. I am glad that I read this book. It's a fabulous story of a woman who is writing to her daughter as she is dying. The story isn't full of tears, just her backstory and family history. Along the way you'll learn a little about the revolution in Chile.
After having read this story, I must say that Isabel Allende is a strong woman to have dealt with what she's lived through. I read this story while my mom's baby sister lays in hospice care dying of Ovarian Cancer. It has made me think back to the past, and my interactions with her. I'm not sure if the story is the reason or if it's my aunt's illness.
To my aunt and all others who are ill and wanting to pass on, it's ok. We will love you forever, and remember you always.
In high school I believe that I read an excerpt from this story, but this is the first time I can say that I have read anything in length by Arthur Conan Doyle.
I have to say that I enjoyed this book, especially the further into I got. At one point I was so wrapped up in the book that my daughter knocking on the door to my room startled me and we both jumped.
I say if you like mysteries, you should definitely read this book. I am sure that I will read more stories from Doyle.
I decided to read this book after seeing it on a list of 501 books to read. It's one that I had considered many years ago as a child. I am a huge fan of the Disney movie, as such I was a bit leary of reading the book after my previous experience, I have to say that this story does not disappoint! I have to say that in my opinion, Disney stayed very true to the story (of course there are differences, but that's to be expected.)
I think this is a book I definitely will share with my children as they grow older.
I found this while wondering my library looking for something to read. I had recently seen it on a list of “Must Read” books, so I thought I'd give it a try. I found it a bit difficult to get into. I'm not sure if it's because Disney “ruined” it for me, or if it was the style with which the story was written. I understand the story was written around a century ago, but the style seemed strange. You could tell the story was written from the play, almost directly, with just the stage directions removed.
That being said, it wasn't the worst book I read, but it wasn't one of the greatest either.
I did not read the first book in the series, as I found this one listed as a suggested read in my son's planner from school. I found it a simple read, but one that I had trouble getting into. I'm not sure why as it is a good story, near the end. It may be the fact that it is a bit scattered in the way the story is told.
This book was an amazing read. I found it hard to put down, and ended up staying up until 1 am to read the last 80 pages. The way the “chapters” were put together it made it super easy to read when I had 5 minutes to spare. I would say that this book is aimed to the 7th grade student and up.
The story follow Melinda through the trials and tribulations of being a freshman high school. Her troubles start before school (and before the story starts). By the end of the story she faces her problem-with the aid of an unsuspecting art teacher.
The story deals with a subject that most people don't want to talk about-rape. It's a powerful story. And anyone who has ever been in that situation can understand what Melinda is going through. The message of the story is simple-Speak up!
An extremely short story that was made as a novel. In a way it felt more like a synopsis than the whole story. I found myself wanting to know more about Dorso (and his strange little sister Darling) and his best friend Frank. I also wanted to know more about the “gamesters” and how everything worked.
It was an ok read (fairly quick as it's only 87 pages long!!). I just feel like there was so much that was missing.
Thumbs up! This book reminded me of the Ralph S. Mouse books from Beverly Cleary. This book has a wonderful mystery with a not really surprising end. Still a fabulous read for young and old.
This story follows a beetle named Marvin and a little boy named James. It deals with their trials and tribulations of being friends from 2 different worlds. It also explores the family dynamic for both. Along their journey they discover what it means to be a friend.
Just like the rest of the books of his I have read in this series (includes the first series of Percy Jackson books), I LOVE it!! I can't wait til this fall for the next one. Seriously, I can't! I thought having to wait until now from November was hard, this is gonna be harder. It's so not fair!!
This book is one that can be read if you haven't read the others that featured Percy Jackson, but I wouldn't suggest it. Why? Because it helps give more depth to the character and the frustrations he's dealing with thoughout this story.
