The story kept me intrigued enough not to DNF, but it definitely felt like a struggle at some points. I don't know if it was my mood, the narrators (because I was also listening to the audiobook), or I couldn't vibe with the story. I enjoy Alix Harrow's books, so it's not the writing. Not sure what it was, but I definitely did not mesh well with the story, unfortunately!

This was my first Alice Hoffman read. Although I did enjoy the story, especially the second-half (ugly cried, many times), the first half did take time for me to connect with the characters for whatever reason. Overall, happy I read it and will reach for more of her books.
Sadly, this one just wasn’t for me. 😔 I DNF'd it at 60% and feel like I can rate it. I just couldn't continue. I tried and gave it a good go. It was very disappointing because the premise sounded interesting. I just never fully connected with the FMC, the writing style, or the overall flow of the story. I kept waiting for it to click for me, but it never quite did. I really wanted to love this one though. 💔
