Fluent in Romance
I am not usually a fan of college or university romance books—I often feel like I've outgrown them—but Hidden Empire completely surprised me!
When I first opened it and saw the extensive family tree and character descriptions, I panicked and thought I’d never keep everyone straight. However, the introduction of the characters was incredibly seamless and easy to follow. It’s a longer book than my recent reads, but it kept me captivated the entire time without a single boring moment.
The plot is definitely unrealistic (bumping into someone on a boat and instantly falling in love), but honestly, isn't that exactly why we read romance? I just took it for what it was and loved every minute. The protective hero and the found family aspects were fantastic. While a few of the dynamics and relationships were a little outside my usual comfort zone, they made total sense for the story. The female main character has been starved of affection her whole life, so watching her suddenly get embraced by this massive, protective family was incredibly sweet.
I’m genuinely surprised by how much I loved this despite the younger school setting. It was a fantastic read, and I’ve already downloaded the next book to start tomorrow!
