boring. predictable.

If you ever wished your high school math text book was peppered with very uneventful alien encounters, this is the book for you.
So boring.
Bonus star solely for the audiobook narration which was the only reason I didn't bail.

so stupid.

It was ok. I was expecting more based on the reviews & recommendations for this book. Not sure I'll invest the time in the next 2 in the series. It was a quick read, the narrator of the audiobook was really good. Most of the ‘jokes' revolve around sci-fi pop culture references (akin to Ready Player One which I started at some point & immediately hated & stopped reading). The middle was a slog & I contemplated just stopping, the ending picked up a bit though. There are some interesting story lines contained within here that I would have preferred to hear more about vs some of the actual plot lines the book is about. Saving grace is how short this was.

quick read, collection of the 6 volumes, a prequel to the first series - was hoping this would be a more expansive prequel but essentially just tells the beginnings of one character. it was decent, non-essential.

This was so stupid and so poorly written. No idea how this has good reviews. only saving grace was the narrator of the audiobook version, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to finish this.

I liked this better than the first one. Think it was easier to dive into after knowing the “world” and characters, etc. Ending hooked me & excited to read the next book in the series. 4.5

Entertaining quick whodunnit. 3.5 stars.

Engaging quick whodunnit my Dad passed along to me, fastest I've a read a book in a long time. How do you rate a book like this. It was a good read and I liked reading it but the writing style (which is what I typically fall for in a book vs story) was matter of fact and to the point. I feel like 3.5 stars fits.
I will likely read the sequel and maybe some other Patterson books.
Also, first actual paper book I've read in years.

highly enjoyed, good recommendation - thanks Priest!
mostly listened to this on audiobook and the narrator was fantastic as well.

pretty interesting. some unnecessary fluff to fill up the book (historical hermits, etc).

Mildly interesting philosophical discussion about conservative Christianity vs Pro-Choice, but the ending to book was obvious less than halfway through and the story dragged on and grew tiresome.

Like reading a Lifetime made for TV movie.

Hated it from the minute I started reading it, didn't make it past a few chapters to see if it ever gets better. Nerdy on a level that I couldn't identify with.

An interesting story that (in typical Murakami fashion) mixes the real-world with the fantastical and surreal without any real explanation. As I read more and more Murakami, he continues to be one of my favorite writers.

Couldn't get into it. Didn't connect with any of the characters. Got really tired of having to google all the Spanish phrases throughout which means i missed about a quarter of the book. I hated the chapters that were about the mother.

I had no idea what the story was about before reading, just that it was a classic book.

It certainly not the story I expected, especially considering the actually meat of the story doesn't start until halfway through.

I guess it's a good book. I mean, technically it is, yes and it's a good story - Good in the sense of the message it portrays.

Interesting read. Had to skip past all the Christianity bs, so that's at least 1/3 of the book I just skimmed. Didn't really dig the whole Boy Scout portrayal. Can't tell if I like him more or less after reading this.

some interesting history on CrossFit, etc., motivating for my workouts having just started. quick, easy read.

Pretty interesting book. Quick read.

Wtf did I just read?

Pretty absurd and funny. Not usually a fan of sci-fi stuff, but this was good. I laughed a lot.

Quick read, good for those moments lacking motivation or inspiration. The last chapter, Part Three, gets a little obscure and contains a bit too much religious rhetoric for my taste.

Good book. Finished in one day.
