You need to have read the previous duology to have an understanding of the world with the realms and magic but yet reading the previous ones makes it a little confusing with the realms and peoples and history of this story. Could have done a little bit more world building and history explanations to make it work as both a standalone but also be in same world as the previous books. But regardless, it is well written and was very enjoyable
Such a hilarious and cozy romantasy! I've never read a book that had me laughing so freaking much. Hubs thought I was dying a couple times π€£ Highly, highly recommend (totally didn't start recommending to friends before I was 10 chapters in lol) Looking forward to more books by this author, their sense of humor seems sooo similar to my own, witty & mischievous and I was loving it π some grammatical errors and typos, but did not detract from the overall enjoyment imho.
It felt a little forced at times, but very good plot in general. Added a lot more depth to the story and the hard topics from the first book. But the emotions that are expressed in the book are like whiplash a lot of the time lol. Sel is still my fav character but I feel like he just got written out of the story π Still not a big fan of Bree but a little better than the first.
Very slow for the first 75% then the last 25% finally got interesting imho. Very heavy on character & world building from one POV for most of the book without much suspense or excitement. MC is a child 6-14 yrs old for the entire novel. The writing itself, though, is so beautiful and well-written. Has some moments heavy with suicidal ideation/attempt, depression, physical & emotional abuse, murder/poisoning, and narcissism. Overall,Β the last few chapters and the beauty of the writting itself made the whole book worth it for me.
When I started reading and realized the main 2 characters were kids, I didn't have high expectations but it was actually pretty good and well-written, better than my expectations for sure! But warning the end is a bit sad/bittersweet. It includes creatures and stories from the most well-known mythologies and some not so well-known ones as well, but with a unique twist. Now, I'm eagerly awaiting the sequel!
