I loved spending time with this book. The audiobook got me to and from work several days in a row. Dragging myself out of the car to clock in was even more difficult when I would rather continue binge-listening on my way to visit my wife.
Hearing the author narrate in their Quebecois accent added warmth and a sense of familiarity. The way they were able to thoughtfully articulate their journey made me feel like they were reaching their hand out and gently asking me to come along. They were able to illuminate many of the little corners that were still uncertain in my mind, and still kind of uncertain to them, too. I liked the realization that even this person, having written many words about polyamory and being queer, still had things they were figuring out too.
I guess overall I'd say: this book, more than anything else I've read or listened to or watched, has been the most humanizing collection of stories about polyamory and chosen family. Alex has a way of writing very intimately, at times almost transporting you into the moment they've described. Difficult emotions were brought to light in a compassionate way.
i'm sure i have more to say about this book but i am falling asleep after a long day
