Very disappointed in the ending as most fans are. At least we have the games but I'm sad all my favs died (⁠╥⁠﹏⁠╥⁠)

I really wanted to like this book but I found the plotline overcomplicated and confusing. Kidan is unlikable and can't even stick to her own messed up morals, Susenyos' motives make no sense, and God forbid either of them actually communicate with each other. The timeline jumps around rapidly and what would have been an opportunity to actually show character development we just get told about it after the fact. Like we went from study groups to drinking buddies without actually bonding???
I think if the book wasn't over-hyped maybe I would have gave it 3* but I was left feeling really disappointed, I don't even care to find out what happens in the next book.
The writing was beautiful and the ideas incredible, but in my opinion needed a lot more editing and trimming. If you liked it more than me I'm happy for you, I hope the next book is less divisive.

interesting but not amazing

I've been a Cher fan since birth so of course I loved her book!

Ok the epilogue takes place after Lady of the Lake but the main story takes place in-between Last Wish and Sword of Destiny ┐⁠(⁠ ⁠˘⁠_⁠˘⁠)⁠┌ I guess reading it last is best but read in whatever order you like

This was kind of a nothing burger for me. The prince was kinda hot I guess

While I liked the show I hated having Joe inside my head.... The stream of consciousness narration also got a bit sloppy and difficult to follow at times.

It was good enough for a YA mystery thriller but Neera became insufferable in the last act 🙄

Its always scary when one of your fav trilogies gets a new book 10 years later ... Of course I expected ending with more questions than answers! Overall it was fun to add a bit more context to this universe. Looking forward to the next one Jeff has planned!

The first half gave me so much second hand anxiety but once we switched perspectives I got into it. A fun and fast read.

Definitely more disappointing after reading a book with very similar plots. Our main character lies and cheats her way into a seemingly perfect life only to have the rich woman they're lying to also be manipulating them in return. Not a bad read but I saw the twist coming a mile away.

There are a lot of overlapping plotlines and it feels a bit bloated but I did like Claire and found her sinicism relatable.

I liked this book until I didn't. I found Anna relatable as someone who gets blamed for a lot of bullshit in my family but the book dragged on and got even more nonsensical as it kept going, making me hate her. Imo just stop reading when they leave Italy and pretend it was resolved there.

Em X. Liu somehow makes a-gender Chinese wizards relatable even to me!!! I really like their writing and hope to read more from them in the future (-1* because I still had questions I wanted answers to but it's a short book)

Took me forever to get through this cause I was so busy.... Still mulling over my rating though.
I've settled on a 3.5 rounded up. I did enjoy the writing a lot but having the most unreliable narrator “recount” a story 40 years later did leave some things underdeveloped while we got almost too much information about his teenaged sex life.
Overall I think I would still recommend the book so that's why I rounded up not done. #justiceforrobbert
