Stunning. This book pulled at my heartstrings. It is filled with sorrow, heartbreak, forgiveness, and joy. It serves as a powerful example of life seen and experienced by a variety of human experiences. I never re-read books. This book might just be the 1st exception.

DNF. I read around 30% of this book and just couldn't bear to finish. These characters are so boring. If you like character lacking depth and redeeming qualities, then this is the book for you.

I finally finished this book. It is beautifully written and uniquely organized & formatted. I cannot pretend to know what it's like to grow up poor and black in the south but pain, loss, self-hate, missing home, and growth are universal and visceral. This book made my heart ache in so many ways.

“The Scorpio Races” is loosely based on an obscure Celtic myth of carnivorous, sea dwelling horses. Maggie Stiefvater weaves the myth into a spirited and inspiring story of courage, love, and loyalty. The book's main themes are human struggle between love & fear and human struggle to both live in and dominate nature. The story is told through the voices of two characters. Both are strong and easy to read. Any reader can find a character to relate to in this story as their personalities are all believable and well developed.
