I'm pretty conflicted on this one. For starters, it is the first part of a series which I didn't realize until I started it. And that would not have been a problem, if this book could stand on its own. But it ends with a cliffhanger and the story is not finished in any way. I don't like series where the individual books cannot also stand on their own, especially the first one.
Also, I did not expect it to be as romance heavy as it is, if I knew I would've skipped it probably.
I mean, they get married in a month??? But god forbid they have sex, can't do that of course. Yes by the end of the book they are married and have not had sex yet. Or at least not the kind where you can make babies. And if you ask me, sex can be whatever you want it to be, so from my point of view they have had sex (the scenes are not very explicit, but things are implied), however the book makes it a point to say they haven't done it yet. Just weird.
And the pacing of the whole thing is off to me. So overall it's a different book than I expected going in based on the blurb and it has some things that irk me quite a bit.

The writing is decent to good, I loved the premise and the start, the little bit of queer rep and the house of her aunts. But I cannot give it higher than 3 stars and even debated 2, because I cannot look past the other stuff. And I will not read the rest of the series.

Damn, didn't expect to write a tiny essay, but oh well, there you go.

Het idee van dit boek was in het begin even leuk, maar hoezo schrijf je in het jaar 2017 het n-woord voluit? Gewoon nee.

Absolutely amazing. Don't think I ever have recognized myself that much in a character before.

On it's own, I loved it. With the knowledge I now have about the author and the background I'm a little conflicted.

This was kinda boring and confusing and I didn't really care for anyone or anything, even about a third of the way into it. I started dreading having to pick this up, so that was my sign to just dnf and choose something else to read.
