I find it difficult to qualify this work. It is oddly florid in style and narrow in lens, offering little, if any, true insight for other Bipolar sufferers. And while I applaud the author's courage in sharing his story, I didn't find it relatable.

In Anthony North we discover a hidden gem, a sober, literate and astute reflection on modern philosophical and social paradigms and their effects. Highly recommended.

I've had a fascination for De Quincey, man and work, along with a few contemporaries since I first stumbled on Confessions back in my 20s. This book put the spackle in a lot of holes.

Ashamed to admit I'd never read Mencken until in my 50s. Wish I'd have known.
