i found this book a good, fun one in itself, it kept itself fun and moving with the bite sized stories.
however some DEFINITELY suffered from the length limitations “thats when the longtooth man runs” sent me to the stratosphere for example
i love horror but i rarely consume it in visual forms, and since found footage is mostly a visual horror trope, im not sure if its just a trope trait or just a fault of length here too, but some felt so tailless and not in the exciting thrilling ooo i wonder whats up what happened way but in a. well what happened cuz youre not giving much to work with here way
but even so, i had some favorites among the stories like summons; accident, of sorts; a small hand-built house
i wasnt sure about the now vs then chapters at first, primarily cuz the now chapters are basically spoiling the events first, which is a bold move that i wasnt sure the author could pull off at first, with the tension still being kept
however that clearly did work out bcuz i kept just saying to myself, ill put it down to sleep at the end of the next chapter and then suddenly it was 3.30 am and i was starting on the epilogue
i kept working myself up over how shes going to explain the events that are going on, whats gonna be the explanation for all the spooky shit and tbh, what she went with is completely reasonable and sound but it still kinda felt Meh to me, i wish it was smth different, i dont know what different per se but Different
overall a good read and the audiobook was a fucking masterpiece, the narrator put their whole narrussy into it and i would reread just to hear that narration again
this book is way Way overhyped in my humble opinion.
it had its moments a few times, and it definitely has a certain vibe that im guessing is the selling point to people who love it but. overall as a whole it just sucks in my opinion
which i am not shocked about, at the end of the day it Is a white man attempting to write about the deep and intimate lives and struggles of teenage girls, and from white boys perspectives no less so.
been wanting to read it and now read it for a challenge but i was disappointed and its unlikely i'll ever reread.
also didnt like the slurs but thats just something you have to live with when reading older books unfortunately (even tho this isnt even That old yk. but whatever)
the plot was pretty predictable, the characters are pretty average (fmc was Definitely a self indulgent character from the author, which i wholeheartedly support tbh)
i personally am not a big fan of the purposely obtuse miscommunication trope so it wasnt really my jam, but at least it was a light and easy read
sometimes you cant have a beach day but you can have a beqch read and this was exactly that for me
edit: forgot to add, but bees debilitating emotional constipation was also not to my liking, i can stand it and even like it to some extent in characters but not This much and in an explicitly concreetely romance book
it didnt suck me into itself as quick as id like, which is already not a good start usually
the characters i kept being on the edge for, which is admittedly expectable from such a premise, but i just didnt find myself able to root for any character for the whole time, it was also clear that the author had blatant favorites too (looking at you tristan)
the plot was intriguing enough to get me through it, not quite sure if its enough to get me to continue with the series tho
as for the writing style. oh lord now THAT was a mess.... it was flowery and even bordering on pretentious at times, at others it was juvenile and felt unedited (the brackets oh god the brackets. it felt like the author left notes for herself to change and add things later and then. never did??)
overall, okay for a read but i probably wouldnt reread even if i continue the series
UGHHH I KNEWWWWWW ID LOVE THIS ONE I KNEW IT
aehako is best boy. no arguments he just IS !!!!!!
i really liked that this one was different in the not resonating aspect it just made it all even more <3 tho i did expect it to happen by the end but i dont mind it i want them to have little blue babies too
ruby still keeps me locked in with these, its not high literature obviously but thats not what im here for anyway im here for that good good aka blue dick
excited for harlows story and also haedens he seems just perfectly my type (tbh i couldve seen harlow and haeden but thats just me)
UGH. so good. ruby lost the plot occasionally in this one but im still absolutely amazed of her mind, shes brilliant and she gets her target audience so well
im so fucking excited to read kiras and aehakos story i just KNOWWWW its gonna be a banger, hes already my fav so far im pretty sure
raahosh was amazing too, not as much of a simp as vektal but i enjoyed him thoroughly too
this series just GETS me <3
ate it up as usual with all of hollys elfhame books
i think i liked this one better than stolen heir just a bit, i was glad to see jurdan again, even if it occasionally felt like judes character was feeling a bit wishy washy, cardan was still the same tho <3
it was nice to have this from oaks perspective and the first one from wrens too, i love seeing into different characters heads
Ugh tiernan and hyacinthe <3 my beloveds <3 i would absolutely Devour it if holly ever decided to write some more about them (unlikely but one can hope)
this book sucked ASSSSSS...
the half star is only for the cover. mmc is an annoying self insert, fmc is apparently the only girl with nothing wrong with her and also acts 10 years old at all times
the writing style is insufferable EASE UP ON THE ITALICS !!!!
the plot itself was like. ridiculous. not in a good way.
couldnt even stick to the main conflict like oh my god if youre gonna do an incest premise then STICK TO IT COWARD
only read the whole thing cuz im a dedicated hater
maybe??? plan to finish the last 2 chapters
i know to go into older books with the expectation of different time different views but. “face meant to be on cotton plantations” is simply a phrase that is way outside of what im willing to overlook even with the knowledge of time difference
sucks
good and want to finish but im tired of seeing it in my CR
just not vibing with it rn, do plan to return to it tho
