absolutely delightful read. Particularly fun for a recovering academic

This is not a book for everyone. This is a gritty, no punches pulled kind of memoir with an unlikable narrator. I understand why people were frustrated with her choices from beginning to end.

However.

As the daughter of an alcoholic and a former cook, this is an extremely raw and authentic memoir on life in the culinary industry. Lauri is so honest about her fuck ups and shortcomings while writing in beautiful prose. It’s poignant and has several sections that actually made me laugh out loud. But it is a book that I understand not everyone will like.

This was such a sleeper hit for me. The prose was fantastic and extremely granular (and I mean this lovingly). What a unique way to tell this story. I will hold it close to my heart. I reread the last paragraph like 3 times after finishing it

This book absolutely rocked my shit. What a profound interpretation of the ills of the world.

This was SO much fun. I tore through it.
