Characters have little to no development with the protagonist having absurd skills right from the start. Story feels like it's trying to make a weird political point in a very sloppy way.
I was really hoping to enjoy this book based on reviews and summaries I read but after completing it I can solidly say I did not enjoy the process.
If you're looking for a complex sci-fi story with interesting commentarty intertwined, while this book at first my sound perfect I would stay away from it.
The storry is slow and drawn out with no real conclusions, and overall extremely unsatisfying. While the novel touches on concepts like race, sexuality and mental illness, it does little more than say “hey these things exist” and by the nature of the book does little to place them in society.
All in all, I found this book more unpleasant than anything else, would skip.
Thoroughly enjoyed the entire trilogy but was very surprised by how better the last book is. The novel physics interplays with the plot marvelously, I don't think any other time travel narrative even comes close.
The plot loses me a bit on this one. There's just an excessive amount of things going wrong all at the same time.
An interesting look at an inevitable revolt against the climate catastrophe. Slow at times, fast at others, a great read. Luckily missed the mark on how polluted our everyday world is now, but still hits the nail on the head of general apathy towards change for the betterment of our world.
This book reads like a bad action movie. Every character has a tragic back story, the American military is overemphasized, any mention of other cultures feels either empty or stereotypical and the female roles are minimized and sexualized to a gross degree. There's a sliver of an intriguing story but it's wrapped up with far too much fluff and uninspiring characters with too much plot armor.
Ughh where to start with this book. Overall the story is quite good, but the characters are so hilariously stereotypical of a diverse and radical crowd it's hard to get through. For one, literally every “white guy” is either evil or just lame. The main character is obsessed with anyone who's queer/poc to the point of fetishization, and overall is not well thought out. While it tells a touching story, I can't say it does so in a productive way.
