I have been an action photographer for three decades: two Camel Trophies in Borneo ’85 and Australia ’86, and two Paris–Algiers–Dakar rallies in 1986 and 1987; a war correspondent in 17 conflicts; I have set foot in a hundred countries; I crossed the Pacific Ocean on a raft of reeds for four months and 22 days; I have written 28 political essays and 4 novels, published in 42 countries in 16 languages.
