Ian is the New York Times bestselling author of fifteen books published by Quirk Books and six self-published books. In 2025, the nine books of the Shakespeare Star Wars series were reissued by Insights Editions. In 2020, Ian created the Shakespeare 2020 Project, a public read-through of Shakespeare’s works that attracted 6,000 participants in its first year, and continues today.
Ian has a B.A. in Music from Yale University, a Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School, and a Ph.D. from Union Theological Seminary. His doctoral dissertation was titled “Virtue in the Key of Justice: Reshaping Christian Virtue Ethics in Light of White Supremacy.”
Ian works for Pivot Group, a marketing agency in Portland. He serves on the board of In Medio choir. Ian is a Portland, Oregon native, and lives in Portland with his spouse Jennifer. Ian and Jennifer have two adult children.
