Robert P. Baird is a journalist, editor, and author of The Nimbus, a debut novel recognized by The New Yorker as one of the “Best Books of the Year So Far.” Their writing spans multiple outlets, subjects, and genres, with work appearing in publications ranging from The Guardian Long Read to Foreign Affairs.

Previously, they served as an editor at The New Yorker, Harper’s Magazine, The Paris Review, Chicago Review, and Esquire.

They grew up in Chico, California, studied mechanical engineering and human biology at Stanford, and went on to complete a master’s degree and Ph.D. at the University of Chicago Divinity School, where they wrote a dissertation on Dante.
