Susan Orlean is a journalist and author known for her longform storytelling and curiosity-driven writing. A former music critic turned New Yorker staff writer, she has penned acclaimed works such as The Orchid Thief and The Library Book. Originally from Cleveland, she studied literature and history at the University of Michigan, launched her career in Portland, and later wrote for the Boston Globe and Boston Phoenix. Now based in Los Angeles, she continues to write for The New Yorker, run a book club on Literati, contribute to television projects, and publish a weekly column on Medium.
