The happiness of the girl on the cover of this book as she is swinging was irresistible: I had to read the story. And now I want to share it with others.
The story is simple: A young girl and her mom walk up to a huge mansion where the mom works as a maid. The girl is told by her mom not to touch anything, but she gets bored and wanders through the house, marveling at it. She goes outside to some beautiful swings and the lady of the house joins her. When the girl tells the homeowner she wishes her house was like this, the lady begifts her with a charm bracelet and tells the girl her own story of her familyś rise from poverty.
It's a story that feels completely true, right to the ending with a mother who reluctantly accepts the gift her daughter has been given.
It's a beautiful story, with beautiful illustrations and it has completely charmed me.
