After reading “A Deal with the Elf King” by Elise Kova, I fell in love with her work and her writing style. Such an amazing, underrated author, who deserves so much more hype than she gets.
The second book in the Married to Magic universe, a beautiful fantasy stand-alone, follows the story of a human girl named Katria, who's hand is sold by her stepmother to a rich lord that lives by the forest. Katria doesn't know what expects her inside the huge manor that resembles a castle and she resents her stepmother for selling her so easily.
Her new husband, Lord Fenwood, is very secretive and mysterious man, turns out to be the rightful heir to the Fae throne. The events of the book unravel beautifully into a fast-paced, magic story that will keep you wanting to turn the pages.
SpoilerNow, let's talk some huge spoilers. I mean, the biggest one would be that Katria is the true heir to the throne and that's something that felt expected to me, which made me give this book 4 stars instead of 5. I figured it out, connecting the few pieces Elise gave us: Katria's mother, the mysterious book, the last Aviness heir running away somehwere they weren't found and where could that be, if not the mortal lands?. In the last part of the book I was just waiting for them to figure it out and see what happens. I mean, I won't deny that I was a little bit disappointed in Davien's reaction when he found out that he wasn't the heir. He's been training his whole life to be king and when the crown fell from his head, he was so... calm? I was expecting a more WOW reaction from him and from everyone else. And Katria was surprisingly calm when she found out that she was the heir. I mean, I get it, she had time to adjust to the Fae world and she was already a part of it, but she became queen so fast and everything was fine. I understand the whole “everything is happy” concept of the book and it's really nice if you want a cute, happy read.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book and I'm so thankful that I got the chance to read it in advance, thanks to the amazing Elise! Can't wait for the next book, because VAMPIRES? GIVE IT TO ME
My first book of July.
This book has me in a slight jumble, it took so long to begin reading it that I decided to take a break and come back to it.
Yesterday, I started reading it again. The first 200 or so pages were a bore for me but as I got to the 2nd half, it instantly became a whole lot more enjoyable.
Now, that I've read to the end, I can safely say that I'm glad I finally got around to reading it. I seriously cannot wait for the next book and I'm seriously hoping that I have some Laura content.
