Lizzie and Sara welcome their first child in this story and to their surprise end up with many more additional family members.
Warning! Lizzie has grown since Book One and sorry to say you will not really get this book if you have not read the first two. To fully appreciate and understand the growth of Lizzie's character or the underlying emotions of the other characters involved you should know the backstories and therefore you should read the first two books before reading this one.
The whole crew is here for this book as everyone awaits the birth of Lizzie and Sara's first child. The first half of A Family Woman is focused on Lizzie's reactions to becoming a first-time parent and her lack of knowledge of children, how to be parent, or even part of a family makes her the butt of everyone's joke - some are quite funny as they are even over Lizzie's head. T.B. Markinson as usual cannot just let Lizzie deal with one huge issue though she has to throw in Maddie going through a mid-life crisis (at least that is what I am calling it). Peter going through a crisis and actually reaching out to Lizzie for help. Charles sharing a deep secret which rocks everyone's world. Lizzie getting writer's block and going back to work and oh let's not forget the additional new family/friends who are now part of the crew who know no boundaries - poor Lizzie. Did I also mention that Lizzie and Sara are expecting their first child? (laugh)
As to be expected with pregnancy and birth, there is very little sex or romance in this book - sorry ladies. There is a lot of family drama though, so much your head can spin as much as Lizzie's does. Markinson does know how to keep us busy keeping up with everything and flipping some character's personalities completely around though we are not really surprised. A Family Woman kind of gives us hope for Lizzie and Sara, but not much hope for everyone else.
I did think of an answer to the often asked Book Club question, “If you had to pick one character from the book to go to dinner with, who would you pick?” I would pick Casey, hands down, because she is a hoot and a holler.
