Better than Sally Rooney for me. Acts of Desperation is the story of a doomed relationship, between the narrator and Ciaran, whom she'd spotted from afar, and daringly approached. Ciaran, half-Danish, however, is still really in love with his ex-girlfriend, Freja. Our narrator's worship of him is doomed.
