Kanzi is Egyptian-American and she has just moved to a new town. She doesn't want to feel different, so she turns down her mom's Arabic radio station before she gets out of the car and she asks for a turkey sandwich to take to lunch rather than more traditional fare. Still a girl in her class makes fun of her mom's speech, which hurts Kanzi's feelings. She is encouraged to bring a quilt from home that her grandma in Egypt made her, and that inspires Kanzi's teacher to make a paper quilt of the children's names written in Arabic. That leads to a greater appreciation of language and culture for all of the class.

Beautiful story of finding ways to share culture with others.
