Archie

So, as a kid, I read a ton of Archie comics. When we would go on vacation for two weeks to PEI, I would use any allowance or glass bottle refund money to buy them. Old ones, new ones, any ones I could get. The single-issues, the digests, anything. And then, after awhile, I guess I grew out of Archie or something and let it be for over a decade and a half, with the occasional toe dipped back in. I knew a little of what went on in the universe, but not much.

And then I discovered ‘Afterlife with Archie.' My love of horror combined with an old friend. And I loved it. Oh, how I loved it. And then ‘Archie Vs. Predator.' And then I heard that it was being rebooted.

I discovered the reboot today. Of course, I devoured it all whilst sitting with my partner at B&N. It was different in some ways, but each character was less broadly drawn than before. They had histories. Their parents started to have histories. I was so excited to be reunited with Archie and the Gang, even though we've all changed over the years. This will sound sentimental, and so it is. So be it.

And I was the most excited over Jughead. I've always loved him best. But here in my dotage, I was dismayed at how problematic the old Jughead was. But this new Jughead. Ah, my love was revived.
