The students in Class 3-E of Kunugigaoka Junior High have a new teacher: an alien octopus with bizarre powers and unlimited strength, who's just destroyed the moon and is threatening to destroy the earth - unless they can kill him first!
Meet the would-be assassins of class 3-E: Sugino, who let his grades slip and got kicked off the baseball team. Karma, who's doing well in his classes but keeps getting suspended for fighting. And Okuda, who lacks both academic and social skills, yet excels at one subject: chemistry. Who has the best chance of winning that reward? Will the deed be accomplished through pity, brute force or poison...? And what chance does their teacher have of repairing his students' tattered self-esteem?

You can only expect to find this kind of premise in a manga. Pure nonsensical entertainment value dictates you go along with it, even if it makes little sense. Known as Koro Sensei, the Japanese Ministry of Defense wanted him to want to destroy most of the moon. He also makes a threat to destroy Earth unless someone stops him. He's given a teaching position to keep him safe, but he faces daily threats from armed students while teaching grammar and algebra. It's truly, utterly bizarre.
Unfortunately, he's really, really, really hard to kill. What makes Class 3-E so special? What makes them different? They're at the bottom of the barrel. They are the rejected students at their school. Bullying, ostracization, and making fun of them are constant occurrences. They don't even have a classroom in the school! It's on a hill far from the main building, in a rickety building. These students perform poorly in most classes, excel in one subject, and have a tendency to fight. The school employs students in 3-E as role models to encourage other students in an otherwise prestigious school to stay focused, so they don't end up like them.
Unlike the art in a lot of manga, this one did not feel convoluted and confusing to me. Although the characters were slightly average, they were still likable. Some of the humor was as one-liners. There was a good flow to the dialogue as well. This is one of the most original plots I've ever seen. It was really weird, but in a good way. I will definitely continue reading this series.

One of my favorite animes! I'm so glad to live the story again through the manga.
PIcked this as a recommendation as one of the “Must read Mangas” from the 2010s
This was an interesting concept but this volume was overall extremely repetitive and formulaic. There is an underlying mystery to the story but its really not explored. Also, this story has not aged well at all reading this in 2020. At face value, it is very comedic in tone but when the school starts pulling in extremely disturbed students to assist in assasinating the alien teacher, it hits way to close to home given recent headlines with violence in schools.

I absolutely loved this first installment. I'm so excited to pick up the next one.
It was really funny and the whole premise is so intriguing.
