The young Erwin Smith is a rising star in the Survey Corps, humanity’s only hope of defeating the man-eating monsters known as Titans. Ruthless and dispassionate, Erwin’s mind is devoted to strategies and intrigue. But beneath Erwin’s feet is another world, the Underground, where humans are born and die surrounded by the garbage the Capital throws away. Here, the criminal Levi survives on his wits and agility. But when these two ambitious men cross paths, who will prove himself stronger? The long-awaited origin story of Levi and Erwin, two of Attack on Titan’s most beloved characters!

Story
This is a pretty interesting story giving back story on Levi and Erwin. I guess it's considered canon despite not being written by the original author.
Mr. Snark tells a great story (and has an awesome last name) about one of my favorite characters, and I'm glad I already had volume 2 ready to go so I could jump right into the finale.
If you're not that fortunate however, I will say that it stops in a decent place.
Artwork
Mr. Suruga's artwork is good, and I feel it holds well to the original character designs as done by Mr. Isayama.
His action sequences seem a little better too. Maybe Mr. Isayma can hire him to do the art and just stick to the story now that this series is concluded.
With Levi at the forefront, how can I not like this? I found the artwork to be leaps and bounds better than the original series, which has terrible art and the story was good, but just getting going, so I'd say future volumes will determine whether this is a worthwhile spin off. I still enjoyed it and look forward to more Levi back story for sure.
