Another true crime that reads like fiction, except this time it's more like a dark, gritty noir thriller. I am seriously killing it with true crime gems lately and hope the trend continues.
It's crazy to me how men in power get away with what they do. I will never understand this. It's people like Devon Khan who refuse to turn a blind eye that make the difference. Luckily enough he met Ricardo DeAratanha, who then turned to Paul Pringle, which then turned into justice and then some...albeit with a lot of hard won obstacles to vault over.
Bad City is an investigative journey that is stymied at every turn, wall after wall thrown up in attempts to block the truth. That doesn't stop the truth from coming out and this is what makes investigative journalism important to society. Kudos to Paul, and his fellow reporters, for not giving up and simply walking away.
I haven't heard of Carmen Puliafito or George Tyndall so this made for an especially interesting read. The absolute disgusting and horrifying truths uncovered seriously make me shudder and want to hide away in my home forever.
Bad City is fast-paced, thrilling and well done. I am still shocked that this is Non-Fiction. This is most definitely one for fans of true crime and corruption.
I sincerely appreciate Celadon Books for providing me with a review copy. All opinions expressed herein are mine and mine alone.
