The Jackaby series is just a lot of fun! Fun characters, fun world and rollicking stories filled with mystery and magic. I'm not sure I enjoyed this one quite as much as the first book, but it certainly wasn't bad in any way. The magical creatures were unique and mysterious, the setting of an archaeological dig site was great and following the characters I already very much enjoy through a new adventure hit all the marks. I did tend to see the mysteries coming from a mile away, which is maybe my reason for liking it a bit less than the first one, but that didn't detract from the story overall - I still enjoyed it a lot.
