Caveat: I was listening to the audiobook of this while on a long run, so your experience reading it may differ.
Thirty minutes into the book, here is what had happened:
An author was excited about his book and had a meeting with his editors where they tore it to shreds. He pouted, had the revelation that they were right, fell into a slump, quit writing and fantasized about working a “normal” job, and suffered from bitter envy of anyone successfully creative.
I do not need to read about this process; I live it regularly, except my own life is not punctuated by pages long speeches on the nature of art and history and the structure of language and and and...
I turned it off and ran in silence instead.
