I hadn’t read a non-asian romance novel in probably over a decade, so this isn’t really my area of expertise and I can’t say if it is unique. Anyway, I enjoyed it, perhaps it resonated with me because I am also someone in my 20s with no dating experience so I enjoyed seeing it work out for our main character. The characters had their flaws, I can’t say I agreed with all of their actions but that’s just how humans are and they were working on doing better. I think my main complaint about the novel is Ezra, he was just too cartoonish imo, he was your standard millionaire male lead. I might not have much experience with american romance novels, but boy do asian novels love their millionaire MLs or parodying them. This was not a parody, he was dead serious when telling Jo how she caught his attention because she didn’t treat him like the others, come on. Malcolm was probably unrealistic too - wasn’t he too good to be real? and too enamored - but I personally haven’t encountered many MLs written like that so I enjoyed his character. Also, a small pet peeve but I find their follower count unrealistically low for their circumstances.
Besides that, the medical content seemed well researched and no wonder, the author is a doctor, I am not one so I can only say that I’m impressed. And the romance was good too for my standards, with some insights sprinkled in, sometimes they felt forced but I still appreciate them.
