4.5 Stars. I really enjoyed this book. I love Wes and Marjorie, they're amazing. Marjorie is the sassy, no-nonsense friend everyone needs in their life, and Wes is a protective little bean. I love the implied “Who did this to you??” trope that Warrick and Nim have going on. It's not the same thing exactly, but he's so protective it's sexy. I am excited to read more of the series. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I'm not clear as to what “touched/brushed by magic” means in the context of this world. Does it refer to a person who has taken on the contract of another? I think it does, though that shouldn't mean Nim can sense magic or even be able to use Wes' father's sword. So many people have been touched by the magic of the Trust, but none can wield it on their own unless they were born with the power? Or can they? Does Nim have magic in her blood? I look forward to reading more.
