It feels like it's SO rare to find a paranormal/supernatural romance that I actually enjoy nowadays but for some reason this one hit the spot! The characters were really engaging and the plot, while loose, tied the story together enough for the main focus to rest on the relationships between the characters and the found family aspect really shined through - along with the romance, of course.
I kinda wish we had dug more into the whole supernatural element beyond just finding out about their existence and a few facts about vampires, but it was obvious that the main focus of this book was the characters rather than the surrounding world, so I didn't mind too much.
I think the way Blair's trauma was represented in this book was really well done; it might be one of my favorite parts about the book entirely, even if it's a dark and somewhat depressing thing to admire. I think the author handled the far-reaching consequences of the abuse Blair went through in a more realistic way than I usually see it portrayed in books. Instead of his trauma just popping up once or twice for plot purposes or to advance relationships, what Blair went through at the hands of his aunt is a constant thing throughout the whole book and there's very little of his life that isn't affected in some way by how his aunt treated him. I think it really got the message across that going through something like that can affect every part of you and what you do, even if you escape and put distance between yourself and the situation.
Overall, there were definitely some cringy parts in the writing of this book, and I don't think it necessarily needed to be 600 pages long, so this book might not be for everyone, but I really enjoyed it!
