Starring bloody Keanu Reeves
Not much to say about this one. There’s a story about remembering main hero’s past and a lot of very brutal action. The art is fine enough for portraying that violence but not detailed at all. Of course Keanu looks good even in this format.
I think I won’t continue this series unless I hear some very good reviews.
Okay, yep. I want more. I picked this up when I heard it was the inspiration/starting point for Reeves' collaboration with China Mieville on the soon to be released The Book of Elsewhere. Will definitely be investigating that once my library hold comes in. Maybe it's just the marvel cinematic universe ubiquity making me think of the Winter Solider/Captain America. I feel like the ageless soldier, the warrior who cannot die is a story that's floating around in the ether and will always come around again. The fact that this iteration comes at the hands of, among others, Keanu Reeves, the subject of the joke meme/internet conspiracy that he hasn't aged in decades and is himself immortal, the same guy who's arguably most famous for his action/warrior roles? I just feel like he's having a little fun with it. This tale definitely comes with my upper threshold level of tolerable gore, but I enjoy the mix of history flashback with sci-fi examination of immortality, and the ever present tragedy of a being who only finds surcease, value, in fighting. Already put next volume on hold at the library. There are only three volumes, so I should be able to get through them before I find out how much the upcoming novel is related to them. Rubs hands together in glee.
