Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career – a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile situation. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.
The she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan – a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run and wanting to surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.
Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

This book was so good and extremely hard to put down. The characters were fun and entertaining. The “bad guy” is not who you would expect it to be in the end.
Ilona Andrews always has great sexy scenes and she did not disappoint in this book. Nevada is trying hold her family together doing P.I work. Only a few people have magic capabilities due to a virus a long time ago. The most powerful ones are Primes. Conner “Mad” Rogan is one of them. He is very volatile and tries not to fall for Nevada. He is very arrogant and pissed me off a lot but that just makes for the best characters. Nevada does not put up with him and fights him until he softens towards her. I give it 4 stars. I'll read the next in the series

Good writing works well and does its job hints at moreI appreciated the Pre prologue to get a hint as to how things work without spoiling anything. A good amount of sexy time stuff, but still there. Plot“Detective”/PI Nevada Baylor contracted to find Adam Pierce by Her “owners” House Montegomery . Ploy to say we did best, but nothing came of it. Finds Adam, he flirts and leaves. Rogan kidnaps her. Rogan and Nevada team up to stop Adam from piecing amplification artifact back together and destroying Houston, Nevada stops Rogan from also destroying the Town. Turns out Sister in Law was in on it the whole time. Which I didn't see coming. InvestmentHard not to get invested in a Girl trying to protect her family from the world. I'm a Classic Enemies to Lovers fanboy. LogicThings made sense as explained in the novel. The only thing I was iffy about was sending the artifact back to India if its existence as an amplication tool vs amplification circle was so unique/ startlingEnjoymentRomance is better done because of husband and wife pair.
